Beggar's Bag

Materials:
Scrap fabric from costume studio (blue cotton, purple cotton, white muslin, teal knit)
Buttons.

This project was conceived, started, and completed (mostly) during a performance of The Beggar's Opera while I was working costume crew. In between costume changes and repinning wigs (approximately 2 hours), I used scraps from the studio to put together this handbag.

It actually began as an experiment in smocking - I found instructions in one of Erin's books. It is very easy, but also very time consuming.

The bag has three layers - the pretties (blue and purple) on the outside, an inner layer of heavy muslin to give it some shape, and a lining on the inside that is knit (t-shirt style).

I'm not entirely happy with the seam around the top. I was a bit rushed at that point, and there are a few loose ends. Also, I've been carrying it around for a few weeks now, and if I were doing it over, I would have made longer handles.

It turned out pretty well overall, I think. The corners are nice and square, and the colors go together well.
